Ford Gives Spielberg and Lucas Deadline for Indy 4
Contact Music has posted a quote from Harrison Ford today, concerning Indiana Jones 4 and the deadline Ford has layed down for Steven Spielberg and George Lucas:
"It's looking very good to do another one. I haven't felt this positive about it happening in a long time... but if it doesn't happen in the next two years we should all forget it."

The original hat was a Herbet Johnson model supposedly Brazilian made called "The Poet". The "Raiders" hat was a tall "stove pipe" crown with a very tight front pinch and swoopy brim. The "Temple of Doom" hat was shorter and more tapered with a relaxed pinch. The Crusade lid was taller and less tapered but with a relaxed pinch.

Tapered Crown in Temple of Doom.

Short Brim and relaxed Pinch in Last Crusade.
Made by Leather Concessionaires (now Wested Leather) in England for Noel Howard, the original Indy jacket was based on a combination of James Dean's classic cloth jacket and a A2 flight jacket with WWI bomber jacket influences. It was supposedly hand-aged on the set with steel wool and Harrison Ford's Swiss Army knife The Raiders jacket was a brown lambskin short jacket. The TOD jacket was slightly longer with smaller pockets. The Crusade jacket was similar to the Raiders but with a larger collar and cargo pocket to accomodate The Grail Diary. It also had snaps on the storm flap and was heavily distressed.
A 12 plait kangaroo hide bullwhip handmade by David Morgan. Lengths from 8-12 ' were used for certain scenes but the standard Indy whip seen on his belt was 10'.

Legend has it that the boots were a pair of Redwings, but the fact is Ford substituted his personal pair of Alden 405's that he was fond of from his carpenter days at the last minute. They are listed in the Alden catalogue as orthopedic shoes. Another popular legend is that Ford hurt his ankle making Star Wars and needed the extra support.

A seemingly typical khaki safari shirt with shoulder epaulets, but Indy's shirt had distincitve vertical pleats running on both sides of the front. It was also more of a stone color, which may have been meant to be a faded khaki.

"Cavalry Twill" or "Officer Dress Pinks" the pants were a pleated wool pant, taupe in color clasp front and button fly.
Indy used several pistols in the movies. In Raiders his primary sidearm was a Smith and Wesson 45 Hand Ejector revolver. He also uses a Browning HP semi-auto in The Raven Bar scene and on Katanga's ship. Some believe it was a "stand-in" for a Colt 45 1911. In TOD he uses a Colt 45 revolver and in Crusade its a Webley 455.
Indy's bag is a modified MK VII British gas mask bag that actally was not developed until WWII. The bag came with a canvas strap and was worn aorund the neck where it hung on the chest for quick application. Fortunately Hitler had been injured in a gas attack in WWI and the Nazis did not employ this method of warfare. Indy added a leather strap, possibly a surplus rifle sling, to make this a functioning shoulder bag.
